The Hintonburg Bike Parade

Knit, crochet, spin - for cycling! Have you ever wanted to yarn bomb a bike, like this? Or this? Here's your chance! Help the Hintonburg Cycling Champions decorate bikes of various shapes and sizes for a Wabi Sabi window display. The window goes up May 4th. 

It's all to promote the first-ever Hintonburg bike parade, on the morning of Saturday, May 28.

There are two chances to add your fun and funky fiber touches to the bikes:

Thursday, May 5 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Saturday, May 7 from 2 to 4 p.m..

Bring your own project or put it aside for the evening and learn a few new skills with:

Stockinette Spheres

 Bring some yarn from your stash and needles to match 

-gauge is not critical but not good if fabric is too loose.

Learn a Provisional Cast On, Short Rows, and the ominous Kitchener Stitch in one simple and pretty fast little sphere pattern (see photo).  Pattern for small and large sphere is included.

Knit with us, or knit your own project while a few of us knit up balls.

As soon as I read this, I had my story to share with you right away. The most wonderful, heartwarming crochet I have ever seen without a doubt was earlier this winter. My Grandmother passed away in November, she had a wonderful long life and was still managing to crochet washcloths at 97 years old. When I walked into the funeral home I was overwhelmed at the sight of so many of her crochet blankets, granny square afgans, and other projects displayed around the rooms. Her favourite knitted sweater and crochet tam were displayed by her side. My family had even displayed her project bag; with hooks, needles and the project she had been working on still inside. I felt so connected to her, it was so wonderful:) I had never seen anything like that before. I shared with my relatives that my daughter,age 20, had been crochetting in the car on the journey to the funeral. This experience was very special to me and a memory I will cherish.

Dryer Ball Class

Great News.

You have two chances to learn how to make wool dryer balls: Thursday's Mommy Friendly Class on April 14th 2011 at 10am-12 noon or Saturday's Class offered on May 14th from 10 am to 12 noon!

Dryer balls are amazing. There super hand-made wool balls made from roving that can cut in half the time your clothes spend in the dryer. Still not sure what I'm talking about?  I'll let our expert, Pamela Pilon explain.  She has all the nitty gritty as well as photos.

A Chance of A Knit-time

The Wab is looking for test knitters. Here's the scoop...

Test knitters must knit the sample within 4 weeks and leave it in the shop for 2 to 3 months. Afterwards it's all yours, baby.

Currently we have 2 lovely projects in mind:

A lace cowl using the new Mano's lace weight yarn. Very sexy stuff. Great colours.

And a sweater in the Mano's  silk/wool mix. I believe the sweater is called The Nicole. Delish.

Fiberlicious Lunch Time Club

We're starting something new! Hurrah! Thanks to our wonderful customer, Marie-France.

It's a group, or shall we call it a club that meets once a month to learn about a variety of fiber crafts. It's a great way to meet people with similar interests and to brain-storm with a bunch of like-minded fiber fans. The first meeting will be Wednesday April 13th 11:30-1pm.
